Landmann Scroll Series 30″ Copper Firepit
I’m reviewing this Landmann Scroll Series 30″ Copper Firepit (amazon link) because of how surprised I was with it, to be quite honest. Its appearance, though sophisticated and smooth, is quite minimal, so for under $200 I have to confess I was expecting it to be quite ‘flimsy’ in places, if you know what I mean. That poor quality metal that you sometimes get in lower priced pieces of patio furniture, thankfully this Landmann Copper Firepit does not use it!
The firepit looks nice with lovely curved feet, possibly made of iron, I should think, or at least painted steel, and a ring of the same material connects all the feet together for quite sturdy support. The firepit is also heavy enough, despite its minimal appearance, at around 30 lbs, to stand firm on the ground and not be knocked over (there can be accidents at parties), yet it is light enough to be moved to wherever you want it to go in the garden. My friends and I like to alternate the setting of our parties so it’s really a requirement for us that we can move the firepit around to suit our needs. I looked at a lot of other copper firepits and they were all WAY too heavy for that – some of them weigh over 200 lbs which I think is quite ridiculous! So, for this Landmann Copper Firepit (amazon link), mobility is definitely the major plus.
As for the design, I have already mentioned its appearance briefly, but the main thing I like about it aside from that is the copper bowl itself. Sure, it gets dirty after a lot of use, but with a good stain remover and a bit of elbow grease I get it shiny once again, and there is nothing that beats a real wood fire blazing in a shimmering copper bowl – I love it. Some people say that the whole point of a firepit is to not have that ‘mess’ at the end, so they go for gas firepits instead. I can understand what they are saying, though I disagree. I think the purpose of a firepit is to just contain the fire and keep it safe, for example, although my friends and I would like to have fires on the ground, we would completely ruin my garden if we did that, so we need something to take it off the ground while still giving us all the benefits of a natural wood fire. This Landmann Copper Firepit (amazon link) does that perfectly for us. We don’t need any gas tanks or any fancy fixtures. If that’s your cup of tea, then by all means, there are plenty of options for you, but for me personally, I like the minimalistic, natural approach of burning logs with my friends. Sure, we smell a bit of smoke afterwards, but it’s absolutely great. That’s what it’s all about – the smell of freshly burning logs.
Oh, and I almost forgot, this firepit can work as an ICE pit as well, which I have done on numerous occasions, I’ve let champagne cool in there and it looks so sweet! The whole thing has to be one of the best purchases I’ve made from my garden and it was very easy to assemble. I am not sure if this thing is rust proof but I have left it out in the rain and it hasn’t rust so far, so I’m guessing it must be. Anyways, I’m more than happy with it, especially for under 200 bucks.
